Notes:
The Wespi is a design born of the need to provide durable, long-term
ortillery support for protracted planetary engagements. Assigning ortillery
to fleet cruisers is impractical, taking away from their ability to function
in their assigned capacities. To function for long periods of time, however,
requires more than a few ortillery systems mounted on a firing platform and
so the Wespi was conceived. The concept was for a massive platform, fitted
with a number of batteries as well as defensive weaponry and countermeasures
to allow it to stand off when threatened. Military minds were reluctant to
dedicate such a massive hull to ortillery batteries and defensive systems
alone, so it was decided to allow the vessel to function as a support vessel
for troops on the ground as well. To this end, several interface boat
hangars were added to early designs and worked into the final product,
allowing the Wespi to resupply and even extract and medivac ground-based
forces. All in all, the Wespi is an expensive but useful vessel which will
likely see action in limited numbers.
