Notes:
The ESU never really subscribed to the FSE's point of view with regards to
missiles and expendable ordnance, but they did design a few ship classes with
salvo-missiles as their primary armament. Generally they did not fulfill the
desires of their designers. The KASHIN Class destroyer was one of those design
attempts. Unfortunately, since it's salvo-missile load was a one-shot deal,
and required the removal of the original design's Class-2 batteries, this ship
class was ill-suited for independent operations. The plus side of this design
is that the salvo-missile package the KASHIN destroyers carried was usually of
the 'extended-range' variety, allowing them to generally get the first hit in.
[Data note: Mass corrected from 28 to 33 - the declared Mass did not
cover the ship's own listed components (Hull, drives, weapons, etc.). Note that
33 is not simply the old components total: MD/FTL/Screen mass are all
percentage-of-mass formulas, so raising Mass also raises those, requiring an
iterative solve to find the Mass where components exactly match declared Mass
again. Verified formula-by-formula against the original 1998 tool - every
component matches its own arithmetic exactly, so this is a genuine discrepancy
in the original submission, not a parser or calculation bug. Raised to match
its own components rather than altering any weapon/system to fit the old figure.]
[Data note: Cost corrected from 94 to 109 - a direct consequence of the
Mass correction above (Cost includes 1 point per MASS as its base component, so
raising Mass raises Cost by the same amount).]
