The Harkness is a fairly new ship, having only been introduces in the last 7
years. It is also the only frigate in the NIR registry. It essentially fills a
destroyer role, filling in on escort duty, anti-piracy missions, and in-system
police duty. It has a very big punch, but has extremely limited survivability
in a regular battle situation. It is not generally deployed solo, but as a
complement to a Fearless class light cruiser.
