Notes:
The City class was conceived as a long-endurance Convoy escort to deal with
the ESU Light Cruiser commerce raiders that constantly plague the Hegemony,
even during times of supposed "peace", & has only just entered service - yet
to see action. The "Extra Fighter Munitions" is a cargo hold with more stores
for the fighter complement. Long-Range Fighters would be the usual type
carried in its escort role (bringing the cost to 610).
Ships in service: 2; Lost in Action: 0; Building: 4; First Entered
Service: 2183
[Data note: Crew corrected from the original 9 to 8 - the Fleet Book
Crew Factor rule (1 CF per 20 MASS for military ships) gives 8 for
a mass-160 warship; 9 matched neither the Military nor Merchant
formula. Original record preserved as
_originals/original-City_class_Hvy_Escort_Carrier_RH_160.txt]
[Data note: Mass corrected from 160 to 167 - the declared Mass did not
cover the ship's own listed components (Hull, drives, weapons, etc.). Note that
167 is not simply the old components total: MD/FTL/Screen mass are all
percentage-of-mass formulas, so raising Mass also raises those, requiring an
iterative solve to find the Mass where components exactly match declared Mass
again. Verified formula-by-formula against the original 1998 tool - every
component matches its own arithmetic exactly, so this is a genuine discrepancy
in the original submission, not a parser or calculation bug. Raised to match
its own components rather than altering any weapon/system to fit the old figure.]
[Data note: Cost corrected from 538 (592, 610 w/ Long Range Fighters) to 568
(622, 640 w/ Long Range Fighters) - a direct consequence of the Mass correction
above (Cost includes 1 point per MASS as its base component). The fighter-cost
premiums themselves (+54 standard, +72 Long Range) are unchanged, since Fighter
Bay cost depends on bay count, not overall ship Mass.]
